<br />3~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 17. 19513 <br /> <br />A special and duly-e.dvertised meeting of Martinsville City Council, with <br />Mayor John W. Shults presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City <br />Hall, Tuesday, June 17, 19513, at 7:30 P.M., with all members present, as <br />follows: IwByor and Councilman Jolm W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and CouncilJDan <br /> <br />E. E. Stone; and Councilmen C. C. Donavant, B. H. Hill, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Following the invocation, Mayor Shultz stated the purpose of the meeting, <br /> <br />viz., a public hearing on the proposed 19513-59 Budget for the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville, as presented to Council by City Manager Hirst on May 27, 19513, <br /> <br />and to receive suggestions and comments as well as to answer any questions <br /> <br />from citizens who asked to be heard. <br /> <br />~;I"" <br />\.?,~ <br />ri <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reviewed for Council and citizens present certain details <br /> <br />in connection with the preparation of the budget after which Council invited <br /> <br />comments and questions from the visitors, most of whom spoke on behalf of <br /> <br />the local school system and its recommended budget and on the human values <br /> <br />aspect in comparison with material needs. At the conclusion of the hearing <br />Council placed the Manager's recommended budget and appropriation ordinance <br /> <br />on second reading. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />~\ <br />J <br />/ ' <br />W.
