<br />224 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 25. 1960 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Hartinsville, <br />Virginia, with Nayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, "ras held in the Council Chamber, <br />City Hall, ~uesday, October 25, 1960, at 7:15 P.M., and with all members present, <br />viz., l'1ayor and Councilmar. J. Frank Uilson; Vice-H'3.yor and Councilman Fred <br />T. Renick; and Councilmen Thomas J. Burch, E. E. Stone, and Harry L. Boaz. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council anproved as :i:'ead the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held October 11, 1960. <br /> <br />Representatives of the Childress Drive curb-and-f'utter "block C01TlJ11i ttee", whose <br /> <br />petition for curb-and sutter construction on Childress Drive had alrea~- received <br /> <br />Council's anproval, reported that owners of property at the corner of Forest <br /> <br />Street and Childress Drive aYld the first two lots on the right side of Childress <br /> <br />Drive have refused to participate in this project Of' the shared-cost basis reauired <br /> <br />by the City and that the other proDerty 01:.rners Here opposed in principle to <br /> <br />absorbi"1g the additional cost ",hich would be necessary to conform to the City's <br /> <br />policy. In view of these circumstances, Council agreed to make an exception in <br /> <br />its curb-a,d-gutter constructio:l policy and a1J.trorized the construction of curb- <br /> <br /> <br />and-gutter or Cn:i1dress Drive, excluding such constn:ct.ion alom- the properties <br /> <br /> <br />of the non-participants mentioned herein above, if it is determined by the <br /> <br />City that such construction is practical; otherwise, because of the non- <br />participation of certain owners involved, approval of the project would be <br />withheld. <br /> <br />Council continued for further study a; offer from 111'. J. Ford Burgess to purchase <br />a triangular tract of land o\med by the City and located at Memorial Boulmrard, <br />Broad Street, and Cheshire Street, Council noting that it has viewed the property <br />but desires further sVldy. <br />
