<br />L94 <br /> <br />AUGUST 10, 1960 <br /> <br />WEDNESDAY <br /> <br />A special neeting of Martinsville City Council, with Mayor John W. Shultz presiding, <br />duly called and conducted pursuant to applicable portions of Section 5(a) of Chapter <br />2 of the City Charter, was held Wedresday, August 10, 1960, at 1:00 P.M., on Watt <br />Street (Extended) for the purpose of considering and taking such action as deemed <br /> <br />appropriate on a petition recently sutmitted by Morris Novelty Furniture Corporation, <br />through its counsel (Attorney M. H. MacBryd.e, Jr.), requesting the vacating and <br /> <br />abandonment of Third and Fourth Streets in the Watt Street vicinity. All members <br /> <br />of Council were present, viz., Mayor John W. Shultz, Vice-Mayor E. E. Stone, Thomas <br /> <br />J. Burch, Clarence C. Donavant, ani J. Frank Wilson. Also present were representa- <br /> <br />tives of Morris Novelty Furniture Corporation, as well as the City Manager, the Cityls <br /> <br />Director of Public Works, the City's Traffic & Planning El'lSineer, and representatives <br /> <br />of local press and radio. <br /> <br />After viewing the site ani the unopened streets requested vacated, and in reviewing <br /> <br />and accepting the August 9th report of the du]y-constituted Board of Viewers, and <br />noting that the petitioner and the City have fully complied with Section 15-766 of <br /> <br />the Code of Virginia, 1950 and as amended, and upon motion which was duly seconied <br /> <br />am unanimously carried, Council adopted the folIating ordinance vacating, abandoning, <br /> <br />and discontirnrlng said Third and Fourth Streets: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />special meeting duly assembled this tenth day of August, 1960, that Third <br />and Fourth Streets, located within the corporate limits of the City of <br />Martil'5ville, as shown on map styled "Map of Property Belonging to Annie <br />w. Ja.m3S" and prepared by T. S. Moore, Dated December, 1924, ani recorded <br />in Map Book 2, Page 13, of the Henry County Clerk I s Office, be ani are <br />hereby" vacated ani abandoned; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the Circuit Court Clerk of Henry County be and <br />is hereby directed to so mark his records; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER CRDAINED that this ordinance shall take effect in the manner <br />prescribed by Section 3 (b) of Chapter 3 of the Charter of the City of <br />Martimville . <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />~~<"~,~.~ <br />W.
