<br />58 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 14. 1962 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was <br /> <br />held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Tuesday, August 14, 1962, <br /> <br />at 7:30 P.M., all members of Council being present, viz., Mayor <br /> <br />J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick; Thomas J. Burch; <br /> <br />E. E. Stone; and Harry L. Boaz. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held July 31, 1962. <br /> <br />Pursuant to a request submitted by Mr. Charles L. McCormick, III, <br /> <br />Attorney at Law and counsel for Sale Knitting Company, Council <br /> <br />appointed a Board of Viewers (composed of Messrs. Whitney Shumate, <br /> <br />R. A. Henderson, Jr., and J. E. Jones) to proceed under Section <br /> <br />15-766 of the Code of Virginia (1950, and as amended) and determine <br /> <br />if any and what inconvenience would result from the requested <br /> <br />vacating and abandoning of Griggs Stree~, Ailzie Street, and Annie <br /> <br />Street, which streets are unopened and lie within the tract of land <br /> <br />on the east side of Franklin Street--formerly the North Martinsville <br /> <br />Playground--recently sold and deeded to Sale Knitting Company. <br /> <br />Miss Ethel Erwin, Attorney at Law from Charlottesville, Virginia, <br /> <br />representing Mr. Robert C. Doyle, appeared before Council and <br /> <br />presented information on "CATV" (or community antenna television) <br /> <br />history and operations and, also, a proposed franchise which Miss <br /> <br />Erwin requested be advertised for bids. <br /> <br />Mr. William F. Stone, <br /> <br />Attorney at Law, on behalf of Radio Station WMVA, urged Council <br /> <br />to defer advertising for such bids and, further, pointed out that <br />
