41

TUESDAY

MAY 13, 1969

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,
Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, May 13,
1969, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., the following
members being present: Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor Francis T. West;
Harry L. Boaz; and William D. Hobson. Councilman W. Donald Hartford was

absent, being on a vacation trip to Europe.

,,-

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular

meeting held April 22, 1969.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on an application filed February 25, 1969 by the City's Electric Department,

requesting the issuance by Council of a special-use permit to allow the

construction of an electric substation on the rear portion of a lot at the

southwest corner of Starling and Aaron Streets. Upon recommendation (dated

April 4, 1969) by the City's Planning Commission, and there being no
objections registered by anyone, Council granted petitioner's request and,
thus, issued said special-use permit.

In connection with the foregoing, Council authorized the purchase--from Mr.

Earl Greene--of said rear portion of said lot for the sum of $1,500.00, as

per Mr. Greene's offer dated January 20, 1969, for the purpose indicated in
the special-use permit application.

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the

following resolution (as introduced and placed on first reading March 25,

1969) entitled, "Resolution Providing for the Issuance of $1,800,000 of Bonds of

the City of Martinsville":
