<br />41 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 13, 1969 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, May 13, <br />1969, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., the following <br />members being present: Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor Francis T. West; <br />Harry L. Boaz; and William D. Hobson. Councilman W. Donald Hartford was <br /> <br />absent, being on a vacation trip to Europe. <br /> <br />,,- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held April 22, 1969. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br /> <br />on an application filed February 25, 1969 by the City's Electric Department, <br /> <br /> <br />requesting the issuance by Council of a special-use permit to allow the <br /> <br /> <br />construction of an electric substation on the rear portion of a lot at the <br /> <br /> <br />southwest corner of Starling and Aaron Streets. Upon recommendation (dated <br /> <br />April 4, 1969) by the City's Planning Commission, and there being no <br />objections registered by anyone, Council granted petitioner's request and, <br />thus, issued said special-use permit. <br /> <br />In connection with the foregoing, Council authorized the purchase--from Mr. <br /> <br />Earl Greene--of said rear portion of said lot for the sum of $1,500.00, as <br /> <br />per Mr. Greene's offer dated January 20, 1969, for the purpose indicated in <br />the special-use permit application. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the <br /> <br /> <br />following resolution (as introduced and placed on first reading March 25, <br /> <br /> <br />1969) entitled, "Resolution Providing for the Issuance of $1,800,000 of Bonds of <br /> <br /> <br />the City of Martinsville": <br />
