<br />,) ( <br />dt <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 11, 1969 <br /> <br />,~ <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, March 11, <br /> <br />1969, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. West, Vice-Mayor; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held February 25, 1969. <br /> <br />Mr. Frank D. Fulton, on behalf of himself and several of his neighbors residing <br /> <br />on Jefferson Street, appeared before Council and requested postponement of <br /> <br />authorized improvements to the intersection of Mulberry Road-Spruce Street- <br /> <br />Jefferson Street, pending the possibility of offering some suggestions and/or <br /> <br />alternatives in this matter. Inasmuch as the improvements are not scheduled <br /> <br />. <br />for yet some time, Council suggested that these citizens present their views <br /> <br />to Mr. Irving R. McGhee, Traffic & Planning Engineer, within the next two weeks. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission1s report, recommending the <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />rezoning to "C-2 Commercial" of two lots on the west side of Ellsworth Street <br /> <br />(one owned by the First National Bank and the other by Mr. G. N. DeShazo), as <br /> <br />requested by the respective property owners, Council called for a duly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing to be conducted by Council on this proposed rezoning at Council's <br /> <br />forthcoming April 8th meeting. <br /> <br />Also, in tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report, recommending <br /> <br />the rezoning to "M-1 Industrial" of a new lot (formed by a resubdividing of the <br /> <br />Smith property) at the intersection of College and Railroad Streets, and to <br />
