Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, June 13,

1972, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members--

with the exception of Councilman W. Donald Hartford, who was ill--being present,

viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor Francis T. West; Harry L. Boaz; and

William D. Hobson.

After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular

meeting held May 23, 1972, and of its special meetings held May 30, 1972 and

June 6, 1972.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council and the Planning Commission

conducted a joint public hearing on a proposal to amend the City'a Zoning

Ordinance to the extent of reducing the current minimum building set-back

requirements on that section of Moss Street between Church Street and Fayette

Street to five feet on the east side and to a yet-to-be determined distance on

the west side. Mr. M. Harrison Joyce, Attorney at Law and Counsel for Sale

Knitting Company (Tully Corporation of Virginia), reiterated his client's request

that the west side of this street, on which his client owns property, be treated

in the same manner as the east side, i.e., the set-back requirements on both

sides be established at equal distances. There being no objections registered

by anyone, the Planning Commission convened and, subsequently, recommended that

requirements on both sides of this street section be reduced from fifteen feet

to five feet; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council

accepted the Commission's report and recommendation by amending the City's Zoning

Ordinance to effect said five feet distance requirement, as set forth in the

following amending ordinance:
