<br />1 <br /> <br />MONDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 29, 1970 <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Monday, June 29, <br /> <br />1970, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 12:15 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. West, Vice-Mayor; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Mayor Renick stated the purpose of this special <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />meeting, viz., to consider adopting (or not adopting) a resolution approving <br /> <br />participation by local housing owners in the Federal Rent Supplement Program. <br /> <br />After some discussion, and upon motion (duly seconded), Council unanimously <br /> <br />accepted the Planning Commission's recommendation thereon, as received and <br /> <br />considered at Council's June 23rd meeting, through the following resolution: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under the provisions of Section 101 of the Housing and <br />Urban Development Act of 1965, the Secretary of Housing and Urban <br />Development is authorized to enter into contracts to make rent <br />supplement payments toyertain qualified housing owners on behalf <br />of qualified low-income families who are elderly, handicapped, <br />displaced, victims of natural disaster, or occupants of substandard <br />housing; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the provlslons of said Section 101 can not be made available <br />to housing owners in certain localities unless the governing body of <br />the locality has, by resolution, given approval for such participation <br />in the Federal Rent Supplement Program; now, therefore, <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in duly-called special meeting this twenty-ninth day of June, 1970, <br />that approval is hereby granted for participation in the Federal Rent <br />Supplement Program by qualified housing owners of property located in <br />Martinsville, Virginia. <br /> <br />By unanimous agreement of all members present and by unanimous action of these <br /> <br />members, Council acknowledged receipt of the following bids received June 29, <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />1970, for street-paving and street-resurfacing, and unanimously accepted the <br /> <br />lowest bid received, i.e., that of Thompson-Arthur Paving Company: <br />
