<br />" <br />i.J <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 9, 1970 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, June 9, <br /> <br />1970, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. West, Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and WID. D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held May 26, 1970. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, the Council and the Planning <br /> <br />Commission jointly conducted a public hearing on the petition of the Piedmont <br /> <br />Trust Bank, as Executor of the Estate of Whitney Shumate, (filed April 14, <br /> <br />1970), requesting the closing and vacating of a section of "E" Street between <br /> <br />Fifth Street and Roundabout Road. There being no objections registered by <br /> <br />anyone toward this proposed closing, and having received the Viewers' written <br /> <br />report stating that in the Viewerst opinion no inconvenience would result by <br /> <br />said closing, and in acceptance of the Planning Commissionts report and <br /> <br />recommendation that said petition be granted contingent upon the Cityts <br /> <br />retaining fifteen feet along the middle of said street portion for utility <br /> <br />and other anticipated usage, Council unanimously approved said petition by <br /> <br />adopting the following ordinance directing that said street portion be closed <br /> <br />and vacated: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE VACATING AND CLOSING OF A PORTION OF <br />"ElI STREET <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by petition dated April 14, 1970 and filed with Martinsville <br />City Council same date, the Piedmont Trust Bank (as Executor of the <br />Estate of Whitney Shumate) requested the closing of a section of IIEII <br />Street between Fifth Street and Roundabout Road; and <br />
