<br />~ r <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 14, 1980 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor Barry A. Greene presiding, was held Tuesday, October 14, 1980, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., <br /> <br />Barry A. Greene, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; L. D. Oakes; Henry C. Reed; <br /> <br />and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />Following the invocation, Council recognized the following special guests on the <br /> <br />occasion of assemblying, in an appropriate and permanent display in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, the photographs of the City's mayors from the date the City became a city of <br /> <br />first-class designation (1941) to the present time: <br /> <br />Mrs. Franz D. Wilson, widow of former Mayor J. Frank Wilson; <br />Mrs. Edith Walker, widow of former Mayor J. Robert Walker; <br />Mrs. H. D. Lewis Woodson, widow of former Mayor Fred V. Woodson; <br />Mrs. Mary B. Pannill, daughter of former Mayor J. W. Booker, Jr., deceased; <br />Mrs. Ruth P. Hundley, daughter of former Mayor Nick Prillaman, deceased; <br />Mr. Nick Prillaman, Jr., son of former Mayor Nick Prillaman, deceased; <br />Dr. Fred T. Renick, Jr., son of former Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., deceased; <br />Mr. Harry L. Boaz, former Mayor; <br />Mr. William D. Hobson, former Mayor; and <br />Mr. Rieves S. Hodnett, former Mayor. <br /> <br />In keeping with the recently-established practice of Council's recognizing those <br /> <br />employees who attain their five-year incremental service dates during each quarter, <br /> <br />Mayor Greene on behalf of the City presented service awards to those employees who <br /> <br />attained their five-year incremental service dates during the quarter ended September 30, <br /> <br />1980 (excluding the month of July, during which month such awards were presented by the <br /> <br />respective department heads). <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--as recorded--the <br /> <br />minutes of its regular meeting held September 23, 1980. <br />
