Oakes presiding) was held Tuesday) October 27, 1987, <br /> <br />in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members were <br /> <br />present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; William C. <br /> <br />Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome to visitors present) <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held October 13, 1987. <br /> <br />,...-..., <br /> <br />Miss Jane English appeared before Council and asked that Council set a public <br /> <br />hearing for Council's forthcoming November 10th regular meeting on her petition <br /> <br />(on which the Planning Commission conducted a duly-advertised public hearing on <br /> <br />October 22, 1987, but had not presented its report and recommendations thereon <br /> <br />to Council) seeking the rezoning of petitioner's properties consisting of Lots <br /> <br />Nos. 18-thru-22 located at 502-to-514 East Church Street from R-9 Residential to <br /> <br />C-3 Commercial. In the absence of City Manager Brown, who was attending the <br /> <br />1987 meeting of the International City Managers Association in Montreal) Canada, <br /> <br />Public Works Director Leon F. Towarnicki verbally reported the Planning <br /> <br />Commission's findings and vote on said petition, including the fact that, with <br /> <br />the concurrence of Miss English, the petition was in effect amended to the <br /> <br />extent that P-2 Professional zoning (instead of C-3 Commercial zoning) is being <br /> <br />sought for said properties, inasmuch as there was considerable opposition by <br /> <br />neighboring property owners to the said C-3 Commercial rezoning.
