<br />August 9,2006 <br /> <br />A special called work session of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held on August 9,2006, in Council Chamber, Municipal Building, <br /> <br />beginning at 5:00 P. M., with Mayor Kimble Reynolds, Jr. presiding. Council <br /> <br />Members present included: Kimble Reynolds, Jr., Mayor; James W. Clark, Vice <br /> <br />Mayor and Council Members Mark T. Anderson, J. Ronald Ferrill and Kathy C. <br /> <br />Lawson. Mayor Reynolds opened the meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Reynolds stated that the purpose of the work seSSIOn was to <br /> <br />review with staff a first draft of Goals & Initiatives for 2006 & 2007. The <br /> <br />document was first compiled by members of Council and the City Manager and <br /> <br />staff have reviewed it and added their comments. The document is comprised <br /> <br />of eight sections: Character of the City, Neighborhoods, Education, Economic <br /> <br />Vitality, Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces, Public Safety, Transportation and <br /> <br />Governance. After the review today, the document will remain in draft form <br /> <br />and Council will adopt the final version at a future meeting. <br /> <br />Council and staff then began a page-by-page review of the first draft <br /> <br />making comments, answering questions and/or clarifying the intent of each <br /> <br />goal and initiative. <br /> <br />There being no further business to come before Council during their <br /> <br />work session, Mayor Reynolds declared the meeting adjourned at 6:44 P.
