Augu~ 23,2001 <br /> <br />J_31 <br /> <br /> A work session meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was <br />held on August 23, 2001, in the Administrative Conference Room of the Municipal <br />Building, beginning at 9:07 A. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding, to discuss the <br />proposed amendments to the City's Zoning Ordinance. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Wayne D. P. Knox, Planning, Zoning, & Housing Manager, stated that the <br />changes are to the R-6, R-9, and R-16 residential zones. The amendments make the <br />ordinance more user-friendly, moved things for clarity, updated items, and added <br />illustrations. By general consensus, with no vote taken, Council agreed to (1) either <br />abolish allowing manufactured homes if legality allows to do so and (2) leave the <br />maximum number of dwelling units per structure at eight but add qualifying words to <br />allow opportunity for more than eight with a special use permit. <br /> Council discussed concerns regarding allowances for small lots and directed <br /> Staff and the Planning Commission to investigate zoning and make recommendations. <br /> They, also, discussed the implications of having residential zoning adjoining <br /> professional zoning. <br /> <br /> Council discussed the evaluation of the strategic plan. A tentative date was set <br /> for Thursday, October 4, 2001, at 9:30 A. M. <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before Council during their work <br /> session meeting, upon motion by Council Member Ferrill, duly seconded, by unanimous <br /> vote, Mayor Crabtree declared the meeting adjourned at~ 'l 0:.50 A.
