July 5, 2001 <br /> <br /> A special meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was held on <br />July 5, 2001, in the Conference Room of Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry <br />County, beginning at 3:00 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council <br />Members present included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; <br />and Coundl Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> Council considered the need to meet in Closed Session.. In accordance with <br />Section 2.1-344 (A) of the Code of Virginia (1950, and as amended) and upon motion <br />by Council Member Roop, duly seconded, and by unanimous recorded vote, Council <br />convened in Closed Session, for the purpose of discussing appointments to various <br />boards/commissions, as authorized by Subsection 1. At the conclusion of this Closed <br />Session, each member of Council certified that (1) only public business matters exempt <br />from open meeting requirements were discussed in said Closed Session; and (2) only <br />those business matters identified in the motion convening the Closed Session were <br />heard, discussed, or considered during said Session. <br /> <br /> Council considered making an appointment to the Martinsville School Board for <br /> one three-year term ending June 30, 2004. Five names were submitted for this <br /> position: James McGarry, Troy Rakes, Lynn Ward, Robin Whitlow, and Barry Wyatt. <br /> Council Member Dallas nominated James McGarry; Vice Mayor Teague nominated <br /> Lynn Ward. Mrs. Ward, of 1610 Meadowview Lane, was named to the School Board by <br /> the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 2 - 3; McGarry (2) - Crabtree, Dallas; <br /> Ward (3) - Ferrill, Roop, Teague. <br /> Council considered adoption of a Resolution authorizing the dissolution of the <br /> Patrick Henry Development Council.
