TUESDAY, August 22, 2000 <br /> <br /> C. Accept and appropriate $896 into revenue line 40100905 440204-Advertisement Revenue, Hooker <br /> Field, for expenditure 40720420 506007-Maintenance Supplies in the Hooker Field Fund for FY00- <br /> 01 Budget. <br /> <br /> Council discussed the following items. Council Member Roop asked the Staff to follow up on two <br />complaints he has received. First, there is an excessive growth of grass and weeds on a lot located at the <br />intersection of Barrows 1Vrtll Road and Clearview Drive. Second, he wants to know if there are any plans to add <br />sidewalks to Holt and Barton Streets. Council Member Dallas expressed a desire for a penalty to be imposed for <br />failing to maintain City property; he wants to examine the issue at a later time. Council Member Ferrill stated that <br />he wanted to review the quality of life program, such as property maintenance, code, and fee structure, and what <br />Council can do to assist. Council Member Teague suggested discussing the item in a future work session. City <br />resident Thelma Pinkard stated that, on three occasions, a report has been made concerning excessive weeds on the <br />comer lot situated on Park Street, off Memorial Boulevard. Mr. Dewey Cashwell, Assistant City Manager, <br />mentioned that Council needs to schedule a visit with Sister-City, Emporia, Virginia. Council asked the Staff to <br />gather future, possible dates, and Council will choose the best time to meet. <br /> <br /> Council considered the need to meet in Closed Session. In accordance with the Code of Virginia <br />t~1950, and as amended), Chapter 21--Freedom of information Act, Section 2.1-344(A) Executive or <br />Closed Meetings and upon motion duly seconded, and by recorded vote, Council convened in Closed Session, <br />for the purpose of discussing the following matters: <br /> <br /> A. Consultation with legal council pertaining to actual or probable litigation as authorized by <br /> Subsection 7. <br /> <br /> B. Discussion or consideration of acquisition of real property for public purpose as authorized by <br /> Subsection 3. <br /> <br />At the conclusion of this Closed Session, each member of Council certified that (1) only public business <br />matters exempt from open meeting requirements were discussed in said Closed Session; and (2) only those <br /> <br /> <br />
