Council Members asked about the success of City safety programs; Mr. Phillips <br /> <br />reported that safety programs were going well. <br /> <br />Next, the Management Information Services budget was discussed with Esther Artis, Management <br />Information Services Manager making the presentation to Council. Ms. Artis gave an overview of her <br />department's functions and responsibilities. In addition, Ms. Artis updated Council Members on the status of <br />on-going projects, namely the fiber optic system. Vice-Mayor Teague requested a cost estimate of <br />expanding computer dial-in capabilities from 4 to 10. Ms. Artis stated she would examine the associated <br />costs and report back on the issue. <br /> <br />The Customer Service budget request was discussed with Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service Coordinatqr <br />addressing Council. Ms. Prillaman gave an update on on-going projects within her department, mainly the <br />customer service surveys. The date for the City Employee's Annual Picnic is scheduled for Saturday, <br />September 9, 2000 at South Side Park. <br /> <br />Due to the Chamber of Commerce State of the City/County, Council recessed at 11:30 a.m. Council will <br />resume budget discussions at 2:00 p.m. <br /> <br />At 2:00 p.m., Council reconvened with budget discussions. <br /> <br />Joan Ziglar, Commonwealth's Attorney approached Council with her department's budget request. Ms. <br />Ziglar announced that beginning this year, all staff of her office will be reimbursed by the State <br />Compensation Board. Also, the Victim-Witness Coordinator is anticipated to resign effective July 1, 2000. <br />Due to the position being vacated and a new employee being appointed to fill the position, the City Manager <br />will include adjusted figures in his recommended budget. <br /> <br /> <br />
