May 9, 2000 <br /> <br />adopt the following Resolution as presented and transfer Parcels 2, 3, and 4, shown on <br /> <br />a plat of survey of Clearview Business Park dated December 12, 1997, and Parcel A, <br /> <br />containing 1.104 acres and Parcel B, containing 0.195 of an acre as shown on a plat of <br /> <br />survey dated December 3, 1971, to the Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing <br /> <br />Authority; the motion was duly seconded and 'carried by the following vote, with all <br /> <br />members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays <br /> <br />(0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Martinsville City Council at its regular meeting on <br />November 23, 1999 authorized the preparation of a deed or deeds <br />conveying certain properties owned by the City of Martinsville to <br />Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing Authority, specifically all <br />of the remaining parcels in the Clearview Business Park, a parcel <br />frenting on Brookdale Road, and a tract or parcel of land containing <br />18 acres, more or less, situate, lying and being in the vicinity of the <br />Albert Harris School, and, <br />WHEREAS, said deed has now been prepared, <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session held on May 9, 2000, that <br />the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized and directed to <br />execute said deed conveying the aforesaid properties to <br />Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing Authority. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution authorizing the City Attorney to <br /> <br />apply to the Civil Rights Division, U. S. Department of Justice, for approval of the <br /> <br />relocation of Voting Precinct No. 4 from the Martinsville High School Front Lobby t.o the <br /> <br />Martinsville High School Auditorium Lobby on Commonwealth Boulevard in the City. <br /> <br />City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., stated, "This request comes to us from the School <br /> <br />Administration by way of the Electoral Board." Joseph Finley, Chairman of the EleCtoral <br /> <br />Board, stated, "We are in agreement with this request. The lobby has become <br /> <br />uncomfortable and crowded." Council Member Haskell asked, "Will it be any more <br /> <br />difficult for a voter to get to the precinct?" Mr. Finley replied, "No. The only reason we <br /> <br /> <br />
