April 25, 2000 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on April 25, 2000, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:06 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, Elizabeth H. Haskell, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> Following the invocation by Vice Mayor Teague, Mayor Crabtree welcomed <br /> everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council Member Dallas moved to approve, as presented, the Minutes of the April <br /> 11,2000, meeting; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with <br /> all membersI~oting: Vot~~'5 - 0;-Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskel.!, Roop, Teague;- <br /> Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Nancy Carter, of 1112 Cherokee <br /> Trail, stated, "As you may recall, I started selling throws [woven blankets] of Martinsville <br /> and Henry County in 1993 or 1994 as a small business. I eventually sold out of all <br /> commemorative products. However, tonight, I introduce the '21~ Century Martinsville <br /> and Henry County' throw. I present this one as a gift from Caroline Designs." <br /> Council considered adoption of a Resolution authorizing the City Administration <br /> to file an application with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to complete and <br /> extend an architectural historic survey of the East Church/Scuffle Hill/Starling Avenue <br /> neighborhood and portions of the Oakdale/Thomas Heights/Mulberry Road/Rives Road <br /> and adjoining streets neighborhood. Chris Whitlow, Community Development <br /> Specialist, stated, "Debbie Hall and Carolyn Beale have been the ringleaders of this <br /> effort. I commend them and all residents for mobilizing the neighborhood. This grant <br /> <br /> <br />
