July 1, 2000

With this Council, I look forward to working hard for the people of
Martinsville and promise to do everything I can to move our
community forward. For as I have said many times before,
Martinsville is one of the best small cities in America to live, work,
and raise a family.

Our future remains full of promise. Working together with all the
citizens of Martinsville, we can become that bdght shining city on a
hill that John Winthrop envisioned so many years ago. Thank you
for this opportunity to serve our citizens as Mayor, and may God
bless our efforts to move Martinsville forward in the twenty-first
century."

Vice Mayor Teague stated, "Thank you, each member of Council. I pledge to
work hard to make it move forward. Thanks to my wife, Sandy, daughter, Sarah, and
my parents. ! congratulate Council Members Dallas and Ferrill, and compliment Ronnie
Stone, David Gilbert, and Nancy Carter for a very positive campaign. I offer best wishes
to Elizabeth Haskell. We will reverse the economic disaster."

Council Member Dallas stated, "Thanks to my wife, Shirley, and all of my
supporters. We need to rally around the family concept."

Council Member Roop stated, "Congratulations to Council Members Ferrill and
Dallas, Mayor Crabtree, and Vice Mayor Teague."

Council Member Ferrill stated, "1 look forward to serving. The citizens are not,

and should not, be bashful. We're all together in finding the best for the community."
Council assumed seating by seniority.

Council considered establishing a regular meeting schedule. Council Member
Roop moved to keep regular meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each
month beginning at 7:00 P. M.; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the
following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill,

Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None.
