Joseph Finley, of 1568 <br />Roundabout Road, stated, "1 would be pleased to see our police officers up to par on <br />qualifications and salary." Tony Millner, of 109 Jones Street, asked, "Why was the <br />airport cut by $10,000.007 Why do they get anything?" Vice Mayor Teague replied, <br />"Their requests have increased over time. The airport is an economic development <br />engine." Mayor Crabtree added, "They also need local matches to bring in federal <br />money." Mayor Crabtree declared the Public Hearing closed. Council Member Haskell <br />stated, "1 need to explore the recommendations presented tonight before ! vote." <br />Council Member Roop stated, "Each of us has concerns." Council Member Dallas <br />moved to adopt Ordinance No. 2000-3, on first reading, as published and presented; the <br />motion was seconded. Vice Mayor Teague moved to amend the main motion by adding <br />$25,000 to the Police :Department's budget toaddress staffing and to authorize the City <br />Manager to proceed with the International Association of Chiefs of Police; the subsidiary <br />motion was duly seconded and carded by the following vote, with all members voting: <br />Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. The <br />main motion was carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; <br />Yeas (5)- Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered approving, on first reading, of Ordinance No. 2000-4, <br /> amending Chapter 21 - Taxation, Article VI - Tax on Prepared Food and Beverages of <br /> the City Code. Ronnie Minter, Commissioner of the Revenue, stated, "This Ordinance <br /> was recommended by the Virginia Municipal League and approved by the City Attorney. <br /> It will effect us and may be a revenue loss of approximately $10,000.00."
