Mr. Dodrill replied, "$5,000-7,000 this year." <br /> <br /> Jack Messer, Executive Director of the Southern Virginia Economic Development <br />Partnership (SVEDP), stated, "We've had three directors in the past three years. We <br />rank number thirteen out of thirteen regions in the State but hope to improve. We prefer <br />one-on-one contacts with facilities. This years request is $8,081.00." Jim Frith, SVEDP <br />Past President, stated, "We're lead-generating, not deal-closing." <br /> <br /> Thomas Harned, Assistant to the City Manager for Development, stated, "Our <br />mission is considerably broader than the Patrick Henry Development Council and the <br />Southern Virginia Economic Development Partnership. We've worked aggressively this <br />year for grants. We're working on the Clearview Business Park, Uptown Technology <br />Zone, Farmers Market, Rail Trail, historic tax credits, and public transportation. We're <br />looking forward to better times ahead." Council Member Haskell asked, "How is work <br />going on the zoning ordinances?" Mr. Harned replied, "There's money in the budget; <br />we'll move forward this year." Mayor Crabtree' asked, "Do you see overlapping with the <br />PHDC?" Mr. Harned replied, "No, we compliment one another." Council Member-Elect <br />Ronald Ferrill asked, "Regarding property 'maintenance codes, are we getting our 'bang <br />for the buck'?" Fred Gordon, Building Official, replied, "lt's coming in place. The big <br />problem is out-of-town property owners." Council Member Haskell asked, "Are multiple <br />property owners getting better?." Mr. Gordon replied, "Yes, it's taken time." Mr. Harned <br />added, "The fee schedule is out-of-date. There's been no revision since 1982." <br /> <br /> <br />
