CHARTER Ch. 2, § 7 meeting attended. Consequently, Ord. No. 94-12, adopted November 22, 1994, the annual salaries of the mayor and each member of councfi were set as follows: Mayor--S160.00 for each regular or special meeting artended, however, not to exceed $7,000.00 annually; councilmembers'- S140.00 for each regular or special meeting attended, however, not to exceed $6,500.00 annually. Further, pursuant to § 15.2-1414.5 of the Code of Virginia, Ord. No. 99-8, adopted June 22, 1999, amended the annual salaries of the mayor and each member of council as herein set out: Mayor--S6,660.00 payable in 12 monthlyinstallments of $555.00; councfimembers-- $5,460.00 payable in 12 monthly installments of $455.00 commencing on the first day of July 1, 1999 and on the first day of each succeeding month thereafter for the remainder of the fiscal year and for each fiscal year thereafter until this ordinance is amended. Sec. 7. Election, teriii and general powers and duties of mayor. The mayor shall be elected by the council for a term of two (2) years from the date of his election by council at its organizational meeting until his successor qualifies. Provided, however, the mayor elected by the council on September one, nineteen hundred seventy eight shall serve a term of one year and ten months. He shall preside at meetings of the council and perform such other duties consistent with his office as may be imposed by the council and he Supp. No. 47 14.1
