Council Member Haskell asked, "What is the Health Department doing now?." Dr. Roycroft replied, "We do preventive services geared towards children from the Counties of Henry, Franklin, and Patrick, and the City of Martinsville." Vice Mayor Teague asked, "Would this proposed service provide care to all of your patients?'! Dr. Roycroft replied, "No, strictly those from Martinsville and Henry County," Vice Mayor Teague asked, "How many children do you see per year?" Dr. Roycroft replied, "We see an average of 550 per year and provide approximately 3,500 sealants." Vice Mayor Teague asked, "Do other communities have dental services?" Dr. Roycroft replied, "Out of the 35 health departments in the State, only 28 provide dental services, and of those, only seven provide adult services." Council Member ? Haskell asked, "Do the other programs providing dental services to adult and children receive State funding? If the City helps start this program, do you think the State would help after the first year?." Dr. Roycroft replied, "Yes to both. State funding is definitely on my mind. We would have to prove that it's being used." Council Member Roop asked, "Does the State mandate your services?" Dr. Roycroft replied, "Dental services are not mandated." Dr. Jim Muehleck, local dentist, asked, "How many dental staff members do you have?" Dr. Roycroft replied, "Two full-time dentists and two dental assistants. They work from 8:15 A. M., until 5:00 P. M., weekdays." Dr. Greg Gendron, local dentist, stated, "My office receives numerous calls asking where they can get help. The support Dr. Lewis is asking for is very minimal." Mayor Crabtree asked, "Sin{pe the sealant program started, have you seen a change in office visits?" Dr. Gendron replied, "No, except for dentists dropping out of the Medicaid program."
