April I 1,2000 <br /> <br />A regular, <br /> <br />semi-monthly meeting <br /> <br />of the Council <br /> <br />of the <br /> <br />Enclosure #1 <br /> <br />City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held on April 11, 2000, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:03 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members. present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas,' Elizabeth H. Haskell, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation, Mayor Crabtree welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> Council Member Roop'moved to approve, as amended, the Minutes of the March <br /> 28, 2000, meeting; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with <br /> all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Y~as (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague; <br /> <br />Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br />88 <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Lafayette Jones, of 501 Second <br />Street, stated, "1 have two old issues tonight. First, what is the status. of additional <br />refuse cans on Fayette ..Street? Second, what is the status of a lead light at the <br />intersection of Market and Fayette Streets?." Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City Manager, <br />replied, "The trash cans will be similar to those in the .Uptown area. Therefore, they had <br />to be ordered and manufactured. I will check on them-.". Mike Scaffidi, <br />Telecommunications/Traffic Control Coordinator replied, "Regarding the traffic light, <br />we're making every attempt to install it along with other projects.. The traffic sensors are <br />placed. The light will be up by July but probably by the end of this month ." <br /> <br /> Council considered receipt of a $50,000 grant under the Commonwealth of <br /> Virginia's Advanced Communication Assistance Fund for the City's fiber optic "MINet: <br /> Martinsville Information Network" program. City Manager Reynolds stated, 'Tin pleased <br /> to announce this evening that the City has received notification of an approval for the <br /> <br /> <br />
