Martinsville <br />A CITY WITHOUT LIMITS <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville has a proud heritage as the county seat of Henry, Virginia; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 1998, the City's Central Business District was honored and listed as the <br />Martinsville Historic District on the Virginia Landmarks and National Registers of Historic Places; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an architectural survey of properties along East Church Street and Starling Avenue <br />determined the area eligible for listing on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National <br />Register of Historic Places; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an expanded architectural' survey of this neighborhood to include properties along <br />Brown Street, Letcher Court, Scuffle Hill, and subsequent adjacent streets would further determine <br />the area's eligibility; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an architectural survey of properties adjoining .East Church Street and Starling <br />Avenue encompassing portions of Mulberry Road, Rives Road, Oakdale Street, Thomas Heights, <br />and subsequent adjacent streets would expand the neighborhood' s eligibility; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, citizens of this neighborhood seek to maintain and recognize the area's unique <br />historic character; now, therefore; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED, that the Martinsville City Cotmcil, in regular session assembled April 25, <br />2000, does hereby request the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to assist funding of an <br />architectural survey and subsequent preparation of a National Historic District registration for the <br />aforementioned neighborhood. <br /> <br />Attest: <br /> <br />Johnathan B.
