Martinsville

A CITY WITHOUT LIMIT5

For more information, contact:
Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City Manager
(540) 656-5182
ereynolds@ci.martinsville.va.us

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MARTINSVILLE WILL GIVE AWAY RIVES ROAD
INDUSTRIAL SITE FOR JOBS

MARTINSVILLE, VA (January 25, 2000) - Martinsville City Council announced today that the City
will give away 50 acres of rail served industrial development land to the company that will make a
minimum $30 million dollar investment and create 300 new jobs.

"A free industrial site is just the beginning." Mayor Mark Crabtree said. "We'll bend over backwards
to make that company a success. We have 5 million gallons of water a day available, the lowest
combined water/sewer rates in Virginia, great quality of life and a ready, willing and able workforce.
We will continue moving forward to attract new industry and economic prosperity to the
community."

"When companies combine Martinsville's pro-business attitude, strategic location, and low
overhead, they will gain a competitive edge," said City Manager Earl Reynolds. "Martinsville's
industrial properties have in-place infrastructure, fiber optic connections, Enterprise Zone
incentives and a highly skilled labor force." Martinsville is currently marketing nine available
business sites including a 50,000 square foot shell building.

Earlier this month Martinsville announced an aggressive direct mail marketing campaign
showcasing the City's low utility rates, high water capacity and available industrial sites. The water
campaign is one of several strategies underway to bring in more jobs.

On January 13, Martinsville's Job Fair 2000 attracted more than 1200 job seekers to the National
Guard Armory. Because of the overwhelming response, the City plans to host a similar job fair in
late March-early April.

55 West Chtn'ch Street

P. O.
