Box i226 · Martinsville, VA 24114 Phone 540/632-1149 <br /> <br />Fax 540/632-3723 <br /> <br />presently structured. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING A RECOMMENDATION OF THE JOINT LEGISLATIVE AUDIT AND <br />REVIEW COMMISSION (JLARC) THAT PIEDMONT REGIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE TRAINING <br />ACADEMY BE CLOSED AND MERGE WITH ANOTHER TRAINING ACADEMY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy was created to provide mandated <br />and specialized criminal justice training for the counties of Henry, Patrick 'and Pittsylvania and the cities of <br />Danville and Martinsville and the towns of Chatham and Gretna; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy was created to decrease the <br />expense tolocal agencies that was associated with the increased and unnecessary cost of excessive travel, lodging <br />and meals caused by the distance of travel to receive training; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Criminal Justice Agencies composing and receiving their training at the Piedmont <br />Criminal Justice Training Academy would incur increased and unnecessa~ cost of travel, lodging and meals <br />caused by the distance the agencies would have to travel to receive training already available. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the counties of Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania and the cities of Danville and Martinsville <br />and the towns of Chatham and Gretna would incur a total estimated cost increase in excess of one million dollars. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 611 criminal justice personnel receive the mandated and specialized training at the Piedmont <br />Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy in the most cost effective manner; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee (JLARC) has completed a study <br />mandated by Senate Joint Resolution 411 (1999); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, two of the alternatives of the study is to eliminate the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice <br />Training Academy; combining this academy with the Cardinal Regional Training Academy. <br /> <br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice <br />Training Academy that we respectfully state our strong opposition to this proposal and request that we remain as <br /> <br /> <br />
