TUESDAY, MAY 11, 1999 <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor <br /> <br />Mark A. Crabtree presiding, was held Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 7:00 P.M. The following members of Council were present: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor, M. <br />Gene Teague, Vice Mayor, and Council Members Bruce H.T. Dallas, Elizabeth H. Haskell and Terry L. <br />Roop. <br /> <br /> Following delivery of the Invocation by Mayor Crabtree the Mayor extended a cordial welcome <br />to all in attendance. <br /> <br /> Council first considered approval of minutes of City Council's meetings of March 23, 29, and <br />April 13, 1999. These minutes were approved as amended, by the following vote, all members voting: <br />Vote: 5-0 <br /> <br />Yeas: (5) Crabtree, Dallas, Haskelt, Roop, Teague. <br /> <br />Nays: (0) None <br /> <br /> Council next considered Business from the Floor. Ms. Veronica Dancy of First Street spoke tO <br />complain about an overgrown and unkempt lot across the street from her home. City Manager Earl B. <br />Reynolds, Jr. noted that the property in question was a part of the R. P. Thomas property that had been <br />acquired by the City. He stated that the lot had been cleared off the previous year, and thought that all <br />debris had been removed at that time. He then stated that City crews would go back as soon as possible <br />and address these issues. Council Member Roop asked when this would occur, and Mr. Reynolds stated <br />that he would not know the exact date until he had a chance to consult with Mr. Leon Towarnicki, <br />Director of Public Works. Council Member Haskell stressed that the upkeep of this property needed to be <br />a high priority for the City, serving as an example of good property maintenance.
