Nays: (0) None TUESDAY, MARCH 9, 1999 A RESOLUTION OF THANKS TO THE LESTER GROUP WHEREAS, The Lester Group is a major business and employer in the Martinsville-Henry County area, offering employment, capital investment and other contributions to the improvement of economic conditions in our area; and WHEREAS, The Lester Group has recently provided significant improvement to the City's curb appeal by the demolition of the former Jobbers Plant No. 3 on Market Street, thereby enhancing community safety and neighborhood revitalization; and WHEREAS, this demolition constitutes community improvement by The Lester Group which will help to bring more commerce, more jobs, and a better standard of living to our area; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Counc~ of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled March 9, 1999, that it does hereby express its sincere appreciation for and recognition of The Lester Group for its contribution in supporting economic growth in the City of Martinsville and Henry County. Council next considered a presentation by the Police Department for their 1998 Citizen of the Year Award. Chief of Police David Edwards announced the name of the recipient, Mr. William R. Jamison, a Criminal Justice Instructor at Patrick Henry Community College, and presented the award. He then provided information on Mr. hmison's background, and his contributions on behalf of his country and community. Mr. Jamison then gave a brief statement in which he expressed his deep appreciation for the award and his great respect for the officers of the City Police Department. Mayor Crabtree then expressed Councirs appreciation to Mr. Jamison for his contribution to improvement of the City' s police force.
