TUESDAY, SEPT~IBER 13, 1988 <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes expressed appreciation, on behalf of Council, of the presentations <br />made by Police Chief Terry L. Roop and his staff at the special meeting <br />conducted by Council on September 9, 1988; and, Mayor Oakes cited recently- <br />published information on the hazards and presence of radon in many residential <br />premises throughout sections of the United States. <br /> <br />In accordance with the requirements of subsections A. 1, A. 3, and A. 7 of Section <br />2.1-344 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly <br />seconded and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an <br />Executive Session for the purposes of considering (1) nominees for appointment <br />and/or reappointment to certain Boards and Commissions, (2) a real estate <br />matter, (3) a legal/contractual matter, and (4) a request for the leasing of <br />four off-street parking places, submitted by CONTACT. At the conclusion of <br />this Executive Session, Council reconvened into regular session in which it <br />unanimously reappointed Miss Caren Tobin, a Senior at Martinsville High School, <br />as a student-member of the Martinsville Transportation Safety Commission for <br />the 1988-89 school year, and unanimously appointed Gardner Payne, a Junior at <br />Martinsville High School, as a student-member of said Commission for both the <br />current 1988-89 school year and the 1989-90 school year. In addition, Council <br />unanimously reappointed Messrs. S. Sutton Flythe, Jr., and Thomas J. Burch to <br />the City's Industrial Development Authority for four-year terms beginning <br />September 27, 1988. <br /> <br />At the invitation of City Manager Brown, Ms. Elizabeth C. Dudley, Assistant <br />Vice-President of Capitoline Investment Services, Inc., of Richmond, Virginia, <br />a subsidiary of CRESTAR BANK, accompanied by Mr. Preston Nuttel, Vice-President <br />of this subsidiary, appeared before Council and described Capitoline's short- <br /> <br /> <br />
