TUESDAY, MAY 10, 1988 <br /> <br />Upon reconvening into regular session, Council unanimously reappointed Mr. <br />Richard A. Prillaman to membership on the City's Board of Appeals for a <br />five-year term beginning May 12, 1988. Council also authorized the sale to <br />Mrs. Florence Sexton Reeves, and authorized City Manager Brown to execute a <br />deed therefor, of a small tract of Market Street r-o-w residue, consisting'of <br />2,110 square feet, for the sum of $565.00. Council announced, too, that a <br />lower court decision in favor of the City, in the case of Dennis E. Reeves, et <br />al, vs. City of Martinsville (pertaining to proposed development/extension of <br />Lanier Road), has been upheld by the Virginia Supreme Court, to which the lower <br />court decision was appealed. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes then declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />W. tt.~e~ Clerk of Council <br /> <br />ADDENDUM <br /> <br />Council was informed that, as a result of the councilmanic election held this <br />date (May 10, 1988), in which there were no candidates other than the three <br />incumbents whose terms expire June 30, 1988, viz., Councilman Groden, Oakes and <br />Williams, said incumbents were re-elected for four-year terms beginning July 1, <br />1988. With the exception of one write-in vote, of the 945 voters voting <br />(representing 11% of the registered voters), Mr. Groden received 537 votes, Mr. <br />Oakes received 591 votes, and Mr. Williams received 812 votes. <br /> <br /> <br />
