TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 1988

There are those among us who are concerned about the loss of
residential properties. I share that same concern; however, as in
the past, as with Starling Avenue, we must deal with reality. As
I have previously stated, those five houses, in my opinion, have a
very limited future as residences. By going to professional
zoning, as requested, we will not see a change overnight,.~for the
tenants who are there now will still be there indefinitely;
nevertheless, approval of the zoning request would simply give the
property owner some flexibility in the management of her
properties.

In closing, may I suggest that we redraw the Land USe Plan and Map
along East Church Street (i.e., the south side thereof) from
Church Street Extension (near Oakdale Street) eastward to a point
which would include the professional building at 604 East Church
Street, in which Dr. Fred T. Rentck, Jr., has his dental practice.

Miss English, present at this meeting, while expressing appreciation of the

statements and efforts made by all interested parties regarding her'rezoning

request, stated that Mr. Cole's assessment of the problem and his suggested

resolution thereof coincides exactly with her views thereon. Councilman

McClain, expressing his opinion that the entire area (along East Church) will

eventually become zoned for professional usage, offered his motion that Council

conduct a duly-advertised public hearing at its forthcoming February 9th regular

meeting on a proposal that the City~s Land Use Plan be amended to the extent

that the south side of East Church Street, from Oakdale Street to Booker Road,

be designated for professional usage. This motion was seconded by Councilman

Groden and was unanimously carried. Council indicated that, meanwhile, it would

defer further consideration of Miss English's property rezoning petition until a

later date.

Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on
a proposal (recommended by the Planning Commission) to amend portions of
Sections VI and X (Signs) of the City's Zoning Ordinance to permit signs of
