426 <br /> <br />TUE~D~Y,'AUGUST 7, 1990 <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of'the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor Allan McClain presiding, was <br />held Tuesday, August 7, 1990, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br />beginning at 9:30 A.M. for the purpose of conducting a review of <br />the Finance Department. The following members of Council were <br /> <br />present: <br />George B. <br /> <br />Williams. <br /> <br />Allan McClain, Mayor; Alfred T. <br />Adams, Jr.; and L.D. Oakes. <br /> <br />Groden, Vice-Mayor; <br /> <br />Absent was Clyde L. <br /> <br />The only item of business was the review of the operations of the <br />City's Finance Department. Council was presented with an oral and <br />written report by Richard D. Fitts, Director of Finance, which <br />contained an overview of the Department's staffing, functions, and <br />activities. Following presentation of the report, Council moved <br />to the Finance Department where Mr. Fitts conducted a tour of the <br />Department's physical facilities, including a tour of the computer <br />room. <br /> <br />After discussion, Council mutually agreed that Mr. Fitts and City <br />Manager Brown would project the City's computer needs (including <br />estimated cost) fo~ the next five years and discuss the City's <br />proposed purchase of new computer equipment with administrative <br />officials of the City School System in order to ascertain whether <br />or not the proposed new equipment is compatible with the School <br />System's long-term plans. Also, Mr. Fitts is to contact computer <br />vendors in order to determine if the prices obtained previously <br /> <br /> <br />
