TUESDAY,-JULY 10, 1990
ICouncil heard a report by Michael Mick, Manager of.Adelphia Cable
Company.~regarding a change in station programming.= Mr. Mick gave
an overview of the..changes in channel location which .took effect
July-1, 1990. Mr. Mick explained that one obvious change was the
movement of the "Preview Guide" channel to Channel 4 and the
resultant movement of "Cable News Network" to Channel 26. Mr. Mick
said that the reason for this change was to offer the "Preview
Guide" to all subscribers, regardless of the level of service to
which they subscribe. For subscribers who do not have "cable-
ready" television equipment, this change means that they will need
to..obtain a converter box to receive "Cable News Network". The
subscriber must pay a $15 deposit in order to. obtain a converter
box Mr. Mick said that although the company~ had-received some
negative comments from subscribers regarding the changes, the
company had also received a number of positive comments from other
subscribers. Vice-Mayor Grodenlsaid that many of the complaints
are resulting from the Cable Company making changes that people
don't want and suggested that Mr. Mick move "Cable News Network"
back to Channel 4... Mr. Mick stated that he would~ review the
comments resulting from the Council meeting with his superiors in
order to assess any possible changes. Several citizens were
present to voice their concerns about the changes and cable service
in general. Among those who spoke were William Edwards, Mary

Smith, Mark Woods, W.B. Brown, and Ellen Andrews. The most
frequent comments from these citizens were that they were satisfied
with the locations of the channels before the changes. were made,
