TUESDAY, NOV~4BER 14, 1989 <br /> <br />Unscheduled inquiries and/or comments consisted of the following: <br /> <br />The need cited by Councilman Cole for the City's CDC (Commercial <br />Development Commission) to play a more active role in <br />"welcoming" new businesses downtown; <br /> <br />An inquiry by Vice-Mayor Williams regarding the carrying/ <br />shooting of firearms in public (which was responded tO by Police <br />Chief Roop); <br /> <br />Ce <br /> <br />A reminder by Mayor Oakes of the special meeting scheduled with <br />the City School Board on Monday, November 20, 1989, beginning at <br />6:00 P.M., at the Dutch Inn; <br /> <br />D. An inquiry by Mayor Oakes as to the status of the on-going study <br /> of regional jail facilities (responded to by City Manager Brown, <br /> who indicated that the study is approaching completion and that <br /> a joint meeting between the City Council and the Henry County <br /> Board of Supervisors might be scheduled in early 1990 to <br /> consider the study's findings and recommendations); <br /> <br />E. Upon inquiry by Councilman Groden, City Attorney Worthy informed <br /> Council that he will represent City Sheriff Maynard Gilley in <br /> the sheriff's appeal of a State Compensation Board'budgetary <br /> action affecting the Sheriff's 1989-90 budget; <br /> <br />F. Upon inquiry by Councilman Groden, Public Works Director Leon E. <br /> Towarnicki reported on the status of the traffic signal <br /> installation scheduled for the intersection of Market Street and <br /> Commonwealth Boulevard; <br /> <br />The recent completion, as appreciatively noted by Vice-Mayor <br />Williams, of improvements at the intersection of West Church <br />Street, Fayette Street, and Memorial Boulevard; and <br /> <br />Receipt of a letter from the developers/owners of recently- <br />constructed Liberty Fair Mall, especially recognizing the City's <br />Mr. Joel Baker (Assistant Public Works Director/Building <br />Official) and Mr. Hassell DeShazo (Building Inspector) for their <br />cooperation and assistance during construction of the Mall. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes then declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />W.
