170 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1989 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virgfnia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, October 24, 1989, <br />in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of <br />Council were present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; <br />William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClatn. <br /> <br />Following the invocation, Mayor Oakes extended a cordial welcome to visitors <br />present and, also, commended all those local citizens who have responded to the <br />needs of the many persons who, either as a result of Hurricane Hugo in South <br />Carolina and North Carolina or the tremendous earthquake which more recently <br />struck northern California, lost homes and other possessions. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved the minutes, as recorded, of its regular meeting <br />held October 10, 1989, and of its special meeting held October 11, 1989. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-~ublished public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br />a petition submitted by Ms. JuliAnn Adams (and/or Landmark Home Builders) <br />seeking the rezoning (from R-9 Residential to C-1A Commercial) of several lots, <br />with depths of approximately 350 feet, situated on the east side of Brookdale <br />Street between the existing M-2 Industrial District line south of Fisher Street <br />and Independence Drive. There being no objections registered by any person, <br />Mayor Oakes declared this public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly <br />seconded and unanimously carried, and in acceptance of the Planning <br />Commission's favorable recommendation thereon, Council effected said requested <br />rezoning by its adoption of the ,following ordinance which amends the City's <br />Zoning Map accordingly: <br /> <br /> <br />
