TUESDAY, JUNE 27, 1989 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, June 27, 1989, in <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council <br />were present for this meeting, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, <br />Vice-MayoD; William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council recognized--and presented tokens of appreciation <br />to--Messrs. Edward Nathan Holland and Willie Price, Jr., both of whom recently <br />retired from City employment--Mr. Holland, as a Labor Supervisor in Street <br />Construction, with eleven years employment service, and Mr. Price, as a <br />Municipal Building custodian, with sixteen years employment service. <br /> <br />Following a cordial welcome extended by Mayor Oakes to visitors present, <br />Council unanimously approved the minutes of its regular meeting held June 13, <br />1989. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council appointed Mrs. <br />Judith K. Matthews to membership on the City School Board for a three'year term <br />beginning July 1, 1989. In so doing, Council expressed its appreciation' of the <br />interest of the three other applicants for such membership, all of whom, along <br />with Mrs. Matthews, were interviewed by Council at the duly-advertised public <br />hearing conducted by Council at its recent June 13th meeting to consider <br />applications and/or receive nominations for said membership term. <br /> <br />Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance, identified as Ordinance <br />No. 89-5 and as introduced at Council's recent June 13th meeting, which updates <br />City Code Section 12-140 to reflect--by reference--amendments by the 1989 <br />Virginia General Assembly to State motor vehicle statutes: <br /> <br /> <br />
