TUESDAY, MAY 23, 198'9 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, May 23, 1989, in <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of the <br />Council were present, viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams,~Vice-Mayor; <br />William C. Cole, Jr.; Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to <br /> <br />visitors present, Council recognized and presented tokens of appreciation to <br />the following two recently-retired employees of the City: <br /> <br />Homer D. Lawrence, employed by the City's Public Works <br />Department on April 4, 1952, who has been an Equipment Operator <br />in Street Maintenance/Construction and, more recently, a Senior <br />Labor Supervisor; and <br /> <br />Eugene C. Hardy (in absentia), employed by the City on March <br />15, 1965, who has been an Equipment Operator in the Public <br />Works Department's Refuse Collection Division. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved, as recorded, the minutes of its regular meeting <br />held May 9, 1989. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted (on second <br />reading and as introduced at Council's regular meeting held May 9, 1989) the <br />following ordinance, identified as Ordinance No. 89-2, which amends Section 5.1 <br />of the City's Water/Sewer Service Terms & Conditions to provide single <br />metering, if requested and under the conditions cited therein, for water <br />service to shopping centers which contain and/or exceed 300,000 square feet of <br />gross building area: <br /> <br /> <br />
