T~ESDAY=, APRIL 9, 1991 <br />ai~=30%increase be provided. <br /> <br />Councilman Adams noted an article which appeared in the March 31~ 1991 <br />edition of the Martinsville Bulletin concerning the Scholastic Competition <br />for Academic Excellence League in which the Martinsville High School team was <br />ranked low or did not compete in many categories of competition. Councilman <br />Adams stated that he would like to see Martinsville's ranking improve in <br />future years and that emphasis should perhaps beplaced on improving programs <br />!=.=~'lwhich-'f~cus..~-~on!~ts~udents who have the potential for strong acad=emic-!sucCess. <br /> <br /> Several members of Council stated that they were pleased with the work that <br /> the School Board and School Administration had done on the budget. Mayor <br /> McClain, while expressing general support for the budget submitted by the <br /> School Board, stated that he felt there were items which could have been cut <br /> in order to pare down the total School budget or to provide some sort of pay <br /> increase for teachers. Mayor McClain also noted that of the over $18~,000 <br /> <br />budgeted for computer <br />administrative computers. <br /> <br />equipment, over $30,000 was <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council <br /> <br />designated <br /> <br />for <br /> <br />tentatively <br /> <br />accepted the School Board's budget recommendation subject to final appr~oval <br /> <br />of the overall City Budget. <br /> <br /> Council asked that the following agencies and/or Constitutional Officer~ be <br /> present at the scheduled April 11, 1991 Budget Work Session in.orde~ to <br /> review their budget requests: Anchor Group Home System, Commonwealth,s <br /> Attorney, Sheriff,II Commissioner of Revenue, Clerk of Circuit CoUrt, <br /> <br /> Treasurer, Patrick Henry Community College, West Piedmont Planning District <br />Commission, ~'dUl·t' Day Care, Drug Task Force, Library/New Readers Progcam~ <br /> <br /> <br />
