TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 1991 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of~Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor Allan McClain presiding, was held Tuesday, March 12, <br />1991 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 9:30 A.M. All members <br />of Council were present: Allan McClain, Mayor; Alfred T. Groden, Vice-Mayor; <br />George B. Adams, Jr.; L.D. Oakes, and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation, followed by Mayor McClain's cordial welcome to <br />visitors, Council approved the minutes of its February 26, 1991 meeting as <br />amended. <br /> <br />Under Business From the Floor, Mro Lindsey Smith of the Collinsville Jaycees <br />appeared and reported on a community survey which is currently being <br />conducted by the Jaycees. Mr. Smith explained that members of City Council <br />had~been given a special survey by the Jaycees which will serve as a starting <br />point for the community survey. <br /> <br />The Police Department presented its Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award to <br />W.C. Cole, Jr-, former Mayor and Council Member, and current Chairman of the <br />Drug ITask Force, Inc. of Martinsville-Henry County. Chief of Police Terry <br />Roop, City Manager Brown, and members of Council expressed appreciation to <br />Mr. Cole for.his service to the community in support of law enforcement. <br /> <br />Council was presented with the Governor's Award received by the Martinsville- <br />Henry County Clean Community Commission for the ninth consecutive year. Ms. <br />Nancy Henderson, Chair of the Clean Community Commission, was present to <br />present the award and to comment on activities of the Commission. Several <br />members .of the Commission who -had been appointed by Council were also <br />present° Several members of Council expressed appreciation to the Commission <br />for its work in improving the community° <br /> <br /> <br />
