210 <br /> <br />Thursday, January 07., 1999 <br /> <br />classrooms will occupy both the ground floor and part of the second floor. <br />occupy the opposite end of the ground floor. <br /> <br />Third grade classrooms will <br /> <br />The second floor is planned for accommodation of fourth grade classrooms and the sehool's auditorium. <br /> <br />The basement is planned as follows: renovation of the old cafeteria to restrooms and five classrooms, and <br />construction of a new cafeteria with special zoning in lieu of traditional open spaced cafeterias. <br /> <br />Other features located throughout the school are: computers in each classroom, computer labs in each grade <br />level's sector, science demonstration breakout rooms in two out of three sectors, special education <br />classrooms mingled throughout the school in lieu of one cluster, specially designed features to facilitate <br />compliance with ADA standards, and storage space in the rear of every classroom. <br /> <br />Project costs was the next item of discussion. Dr. Trollinger distributed a supplemental handout outlining <br />anticipated cost. The cost is as follows: general contractor fee $8,210,000; contingency allowance $200,000; <br />utility connection fees $38,000; architectural and engineering fees remaining $100,020; furniture, fixtures, <br />and equipment $182,075; media center $49,310; landscaping $25,000; an owner's construction inspector <br />$50,000; and technology improvements $245,595. The grand total is $9,100,000. Councilmember Dallas <br />asked Dr. Trollinger if the anticipated funds for technology are sufficient. Dr. Trollinger stated that the <br />amount seemed adequate and would place Martinsville above average in the technology area. <br />Councilmember Dallas then asked Dr. Trollinger if construction costs could be cut to put additional funding <br />into technology. Dr. Trollinger answered by stating cuts have already been made to minimize costs. <br />Councilmember Haskell asked Dr. Trollinger what the community thinks about the project. Dr. Trollinger <br />said that most people want a renovation instead of construction of a new building, and they are enthusiastic <br /> <br /> <br />
