Vice-Mayor Teague also suggested that there be a <br />priority included to support legislation which would increase the fee charged on various Court Cases for <br />support of costs for law libraries, from $4.00 per case to $6.00 per case. Council Member Haskell <br />pointed out that Council should characterize all its support of Education Funding issues in a non-partisan <br />manner, and preserve all possible options while providing for the maximum flexibility in the use of any <br />funds provided. She also encouraged the same neutral posture on the issue of funding for Urban <br />Redevelopment. Council Member Haskell then suggested an addition to the language relative to Human. <br />Services issues, stating that there should be a statement to the effect that any return of mental health <br />patients to local communities from state facilities should be accompanied by funds adequate for their care <br />at the local level. In addition, Council Member Haskell suggested that the language related to request for <br />funding for the Virginia Museum of Natural History be made stronger, by stating a specific requested <br />dollar figure for the project. Following some discussion on this matter. Council agreed that an amount not <br />to exceed $20 million should be requested. Council Member Haskell next asked if any support or. <br />statements were needed relative to the electric deregulation issue. Mr. Reynolds stated that there were <br />very mixed views on this from those involved in the issue. Ms. Haskell then asked if the City should <br />simply state its interests in this matter, to which Mr. Reynolds agreed. Mayor Crabtree then suggested <br />that more language was needed to emphasize the need for enhanced funding for industrial access roads. <br />Council Member Roop added that staff should check to see if Henry County had included funding for the <br />Liberty StreetYClearview Drive project as one of their legislative priorities. Following this discussion, and '- <br />with the changes 'and amendments suggested, Council adopted the proposed list of Legislative Priorities <br /> <br />by the following vote, all members voting: <br />Vote: 5-0 <br /> <br />Yeas: (5) Crabtree, Dallas, Haskell, Roop, Teague. <br /> <br />Nays: (0) None. <br /> <br /> <br />
