A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of
Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr., presiding, was
held Tuesday, June 27, 1995 at Patrick Henry Elementary School,
beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council were present: George B.
Adams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree; M. Gene
Teague; and Clyde L. Willjams.

After the invocation, followed by Mayor Adams' cordial welcome to
visitors present, Council conducted a Neighborhood Town Meeting. After
inviting comments from persons present but receiving none, Mayor Adams
continued with the regular meeting agenda.

Council approved the minutes of its meetings of June 1 and 13, 1995 as
circulated.

Council considered receipt of the Outstanding Transportation Safety
Commission Award for 1994. Chief of Police Terry L. Roop explained the
Martinsville Transportation Safety Commission had received, for the
second year, the award as the Outstanding Commission at the Regional
Traffic Safety Award Program sponsored by the Blue Ridge Regional
Traffic Safety Board. David Ashwell, Chairman of the Transportation
Safety Commission, presented the award to Council to be displayed at an
appropriate location. The members of Council expressed appreciation to
the Transportation Safety Commission for their efforts on behalf of the
community.

Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council reappointed
Judith Matthews, 211 Arrowhead Trail, to a 3-year term beginning July
1, 1995 to the School Board.
