Public Works Director Leon Towarnicki stated that work would <br />be contracted and would begin in the Fall of 1996 or early Spring of <br />1997. In response to a final inquiry from Ms. Hylton, Mr. Towarnicki <br />stated the street sweeper circulates through residential neighborhoods <br />approximately every 3-4 weeks. E. Coy Preston, 513 Fayette Street, <br />asked for more police presence and inquired if there was anything that <br />could be done regarding loitering. Chief of Police David Edwards said <br />the Police Department had increased security on the West Side and that <br />nothing could be done about loitering unless an individual was impeding <br />traffic. Mr. Preston also asked about the status of a juvenile curfew <br />ordinance, to which it was noted that a public meeting would be held on <br />September 30, 1996 to address this subject. Leon Moore, 98 S. Beaver <br />Street, expressed concern about traffic on Beaver Street, citing the <br />need for curb and gutter and also noted a storm drainage problem on the <br />street which he asked Council to review. Margaret Hairston also <br />expressed concern regarding the need for curb and gutter, to which it <br />was noted that a revised list of curb and gutter projects would be <br />brought to Council during the FY 97-98 budget process. Wayne Prunty, <br />Rivermont Apartments, inquired as to the status of a sidewalk to <br />Rivermont. City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr. noted the Fayette Street <br />corridor improvement project is second on the City's list of priorities <br />for Virginia Department of Transportation funds. Thelma Pinkard, 208 <br />Park Street, suggested the Senior Citizens Center bus be used to <br />transport senior citizens to Council meetings or other civic meetings. <br />Ethel Mahan, 1156 Yorkshire Road, expressed concern regarding school <br />children having to wait for the school bus at the intersection of Pine <br />Hall Road and Fayette Street, stating it was a dangerous location. <br />Mayor Adams suggested she address this issue with the School Board. <br />Council Member Haskell suggested the City Administration write to the <br /> <br /> <br />
