TUESDAY, JUNE 25, 1996 since 1982 and several changes had since been made to the City's organizational structure. One of the changes resulted in the Inspection Division being under the Office of Community Development rather than the Department of Public Works. In addition, the appointment of the Building Official was designated as the function of the Director of Public Works rather than the City Manager. Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council adopted the following Ordinance No. 96-5: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled on June 25, 1996, that Article II-- Organization, Section 2.1--Inspection Division and Section 2.2-- Personnel Appointments of the Building Code Ordinance of the City of Martinsville be amended, as follows: Sec. 2.1 Sec. 2.2 ARTICLE II ORGANIZATION Inspection Division There shall be maintained in the Office of Community Development a Division of Inspections, which shall be under the direct supervision of an employee of the City referred to as the Building Official. Personnel Appointments The Building Official shall be appointed by the City Manager. The Building Official may appoint such assistants as provided for in the annual budget, with the approval of the City Manager.
