168 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, MAY 28, 1996 <br /> <br />site development of lots at Clearview Business Park. Tom Harned, Asst. <br />to the City Manager for Development, reviewed the grant application <br />which contained $700,000 in Federal Funding, 8450,000 in State Funding, <br />and $728,100 in local funding. In response to questions from Council, <br />Mr. Harned stated that he believed no cash funding would be needed to <br />meet the local match. Upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous <br />vote, Council adopted the following Resolution: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City Council desires to pursue industrial <br />development in the City in order to provide a sound economic base for <br />its citizens; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council has elected to be covered by the West <br />Piedmont Planning District Commission's Regional Overall Economic <br />Development Program to assess the City's overall economic outlook and <br />to establish goals and objectives to achieve economic development; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, site development of lots at property known as Clearview <br />Business Park has been identified as a number one priority pro3ect in <br />the WPPD Overall Economic Development Program document; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there appears to be funding available from the Economic <br /> Development Administration to begin site development of lots at <br />~Clearview Business Park; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular session assembled May 28, 1996, that it does hereby approve the <br />submission of a grant application to the Economic Development <br />Administration for site development of lots at Clearview Business Park <br />and does hereby commit local funds to match the federal monies for this <br />project; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Council does hereby authorize the City <br />Manager to execute the grant application and other documents related to <br />Phase I--Development--of the Clearview Business Park. <br /> <br />In a matter not on the agenda, Chief of Police David Edwards announced <br />the Police Department had established a telephone number to be used by <br />citizens to report suspected criminal activity.
