FRIDAY, MAY 10, 1996 <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr. presiding, was <br />held Friday, May 10, 1996 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning <br />at 2:00 P.M. The following members of Council were present: George B. <br />Adams, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; M. Gene Teague; and Clyde <br />L. Willjams. Absent was Councilman Mark A. Crabtree, who was away from <br />the City. Councilman Willjams was not present at the beginning of the <br />meeting, but joined the Council after they entered Executive Session. <br /> <br />3.81 <br /> <br />In accordance with Section 2.1-344 (A) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, <br />and as amended) and upon motion, duly seconded and by unanimous <br />recorded vote, Council convened into Executive Session for the purpose <br />of discussing the following matters: (1) consultation with legal <br />counsel, as authorized by Subsection 7; (2) the possible disposition of <br />publicly-owned property, as authorized by Subsection 3; and (3) a <br />briefing by legal counsel regarding probable litigation, as authorized <br />by Subsection 7. At the conclusion of this Executive Session, each <br />member of Council certified that (1) only public business matters <br />exempt from open meeting requirements were discussed in said Executive <br />Session; and (2) only those business matters identified in the motion <br />convening the Executive Session were heard, discussed or considered <br />during said Session. <br /> <br />Regarding the first item discussed in Executive Session, upon motion, <br />duly seconded and by unanimous vote, Council authorized the City <br />Attorney to provide a written response to a letter from William F. <br />Stone, Jr., Attorney, dated May 3, 1996. <br /> <br />Council took no action on the other items discussed in Executive <br /> <br /> <br />
