TUESDAY, JULY 28, 1998 <br /> <br />the community a better chance for worthwhile social activities; Upon motion duly seconded and by <br /> <br />unanimous vote Council adopted the following Resolution granting the requested merger: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council for the City of Martinsville is committed to supporting programs and activities <br />that improve the quality of life for youth and assist in preventing delinquency; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the participation 'of Our citizens is thought to be beneficial to the planning, development, <br />coordination and implementation of youth programs and activities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville-Henry County Youth Services Commission, Inc., which was created by Council <br />Resolution dated May 26, 1992, to administer the Martinsville-Henry County Office on 'Youth, desires to <br />merge with FOCUS, Inc. (Friends of The Court Understanding Through Sharing) and be known as FOCUS <br />ON YOUTH, INC.; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled <br />July 28, 1998, that the Council approves the merger of the two agencies to create what shall be known <br />hereafter as Focus on Youth, Inc.; and <br /> <br />BE IT FUTItER RESOLVED that Focus on Youth, Inc. shall abide by all of the requirements as set forth in <br />Title 66, Chapter 3, Delinquency Prevention and Youth Development Act, Code of Virginia, 1950, as <br />amended, in the administration of funds provided by the State of Virginia for this purpose. <br /> <br />Council next considered a recommendation by the Martinsville Transportation Safety Commission to install <br />traffic signals on Brookdale Street. Mr. Reynolds noted that Council had heard a report on a transportation <br />study recently performed in the Spruce St., Sprucedale St. and Brookdale St. area, from which had come a <br />recommendation that a traffic light be installed at the intersection of Brookdale and Sprucedale, and that City <br />staff had requested another light be installed at the intersection of Brookdale, Fisher St. and Madison St. <br />Following some discussion concerning the accident history of the area, traffic flow issues, sequencing of <br />signals and funding for the project Council approved the installation of the traffic signals recommended, by <br /> <br />unanimous vote upon motion duly seconded. <br /> <br /> <br />
