TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 1998 <br />A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. <br />Adams, Jr. presiding, was held Tuesday, March 10, 1998, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at <br />7:00 P.M. The following members of Council were present: George B. Adams, Jr., Mayor; Dr. Mark A. <br />Crabtree, Vice-Mayor; Bruce H.T. Dallas, Elizabeth H. Haskell and M. Gene Teague. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />After the invocation, provided by Council Member Teague, and followed by the Mayor's cordial welcome to <br />visitors present, Council approved, upon motion duly seconded, and by unanimous vote, the minutes of its <br />meeting of February 24, 1998. <br /> <br />Next on the agenda Council considered recognition of citizens who had served on various Boards and <br />Commissions. Those recognized included: <br /> <br /> James R. Minter, Jr., Clean Community Commission of Martinsville-Henry County, 1996 - 1998. <br /> <br /> Veronica Davis, Transportation Safety Commission 1994 - 1997. <br /> <br /> Claire A. England, Transportation Safety Commission, 1989 - 1997. <br /> <br />None of the above were present to receive their awards in person. <br /> <br />Council next considered Business from the Floor. Mrs. Gloria Hilton of 402 2nd Street spoke on behalf of <br />Ms. Lucille Hairston Hodge of 508 Couple Street, and stated that when recent street work at the end of the <br />street where Ms. Hodge lived had been firfished the curb and gutter work done there had not proved to be <br />adequate, and appeared unfinished or poorly done. The situation was making it difficult for vehicles to <br />access the homes in that immediate area and Ms. Hilton asked that the City look at the situation and correct <br />it. Mr. Earl Reynolds, City Manager, stated that this would be done. Continuing under Business from the <br />Floor, Ms. Veronica Dancy of 308 1st Street noted a problem with debris on a City owned lot at the comer of <br />1 st and B Streets. Mr. Reynolds pledged to have City staff address the issue. <br /> <br /> <br />
