TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1998 <br /> <br /> CITY OF MARTINSVH,LE, VIRGINIA <br /> ORDINANCE NO 98-5 <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINleD by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled February 10, <br />1998, that it does hereby amend Chapter 12-Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Article if[--Vehicle License, Section 12- <br />51--Fee of the City Code, as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 12-51. Fee. <br /> <br />The annual license fee for vehicles required to be licensed under this article shall be as follows: <br /> <br />(1) Automobiles: Twenty dollars ($20.00) <br /> <br />Trucks of not more than fifteen thousand (15,000) pounds gross weight: Twenty dollars <br />($20.00) <br /> <br />(3) <br /> <br />Trucks of more than fifteen thousand (15,000) pounds gross weight: Twenty dollars <br />($20.00} olus one dollar ($1.00) per one thousand (1,000) pounds gross weight over <br />fifteen thousand (15,000} pounds. <br /> <br />(4) Motorcycles: Five dollars ($5.00) <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that an emergency exists, and this ordinance shall become effective immediately <br />upon adoption. <br /> <br />City Treasurer Conrad asked for further clarification on the assessment of fees for vehicles where the weight <br />in question was greater than that noted in the Ordinance for trucks of more than 15,000 pounds gross weight, <br />but not a full increment of 1,000 pounds more. Upon question of past practice, that being to assess the <br />additional weight in increments of 100 pounds, the Council directed that past practice in this matter be <br />continued. <br /> <br />Council next considered a request from the Commonwealth Attomey's Office to upgrade a current part-time <br />attorney position to a full-time position. Ms. Joan Ziglar, Commonwealth's Attorney, was present to support <br />this request, citing the fact that she had requested an upgrade of the position by the State Compensation <br /> <br /> <br />
